MYSA is a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization that provides youth sports activities for Massillon City Schools students and Massillon City School District residents. Our board is composed of 7 voting members, up to 1 non-voting members and 2 athletic directors (non-voting).

In order to participate in an MYSA program you must attend school in the Massillon City School District or reside in the the Massillon City School District. There are No exceptions to this policy.

 To teach, develop, organize manage, and offer Massillon youth the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of all sports , while instilling life-lessons and values such as character, team work, discipline, respect and sportsmanship.

MYSA offers Homework/Study Assistance to all participants in our programs with assistance from Massillon City Schools NHS, NTHS and Teaching Professions Class. We also honor our participants with Academic Excellence Awards at the end of each season.

  • MYSA officially started 13 years ago as MYBA (Massillon Youth Basketball Association) under the direction of Brian Smith and Devin Williams
  • Our vision was to provide all students from grades 1st through 6th the opportunity to participate in sports leagues, camps, and tournaments under our leadership.
  • Brian and Devin work closely with each high school sports coaching staff and student athletes to help interact with our younger students.
  • Sports programs offered under ONE organization allows the students to participate in more activities, diversifying their experiences.
  • We join leagues and expose our students to our neighboring rivals and begin to build a feeder system for our school district.
  • School-supported youth sports create important opportunities for students to contribute to their school community, cultivating an increased commitment to, and identification with, the school and its values.
  • From 2013-2022 MYSA has serviced over 20,000 MCS Students.
  • All MYSA coaches are trained in basic first-aid, complete concussion and Lindsay’s Law courses, and are FBI/BCI background-checked.
  • All participants parents/guardians are required to review Lindsay’s Law and concussion information.
  • Parent meetings are held prior to each sport to review league policies and important information.
  • Each sport has a director that is on-site during most events.
  • All tournaments that we run at WHS or MMS have security on-site or checking in at various times throughout the event. 
  • All of our participants and events are covered under insurance policies that are sport-specific.
  • We carry board and director insurance.

 

  • MYSA has the following rules in place at ALL playing sites, complex’s, practices, games and events:
        • No Smoking or Vaping of any kind
        • No Drugs or Alcohol of any kind
        • No weapons, this includes knives & firearms
        • No Pets and Dogs (service animals permitted)

In order to operate our programs, we charge a registration fee per sport. Registration fees are used to cover the cost of operating the program including but not limited to:

  • League / Tournament Fees
  • Uniforms
  • Equipment
  • Insurance
  • Officials / Umpires
  • Individual Sport Director
  • Athletic Director

The MYSA is committed to providing quality programs and services to all Massillon City Schools students & families, regardless of their ability to pay.   • President: Matt Keller
    • Matt is born and raised in Massillon.  He has owned Keller’s Office Furniture in Downtown Massillon since 2003.  He was the Massillon Tiger Football Booster Club President in 2015.  He is one of the founding board members of MYSA. Matt is married to Michelle and they have two sons, Vinny and Tommy.
  • Vice President: Anthony Repp
    • Born and raised in Massillon,  Anthony is a 2004 graduate of WHS. He is a longtime employee of MCTV, Inc. Anthony has played an active part of youth sports and development in Massillon, both as a coach and an organizer for many years. He is a former member of the Board of Directors at the Boys & Girls Club of Massillon, where he served for five years. Currently, he is a member of The Rotary Club of Massillon and the co-chairman of the Massillon Tiger Football Sideliners program. Anthony resides in the city with his wife Bethany and four children Gabe, Gwenley, Arianna, and Abriella. 
  • Member: Jeff Thornberry
    •  Jeff is a proud born and raised Massillonian and graduated from WHS in 1969.  I then enrolled at the Harvard of the Midwest Mount Union College.  I graduated in 1973 with a BA degree, a soon to be wife Adriann, and my first job in the Admissions Office. My working career was spent mostly in public education In the Alliance City District, Tuslaw Local District, and the Massillon City Schools. I was a Special, Ed teacher, a work study coordinator, an Elementary Principal, a Jr High Assistant Principal, and retired as the Athletic Director at WHS.  I was active in many activities at WHS, Mount Union, and I continue to give back to my community serving on a number of boards and committees  including President of the MYSA  Board for 5 years.   
  • Member: Joel Fichter
    • Joel Fichter has been on the Board of Directors of MYSA since February, 2018.  He is a 1977 graduate of WHS and has been active in youth sports for many years.  A lifelong resident of Massillon, Joel is a Judge in the Massillon Municipal Court and is married to Christine.  They have three sons:  Reed, Todd and Chad.
  • Member & Secretary: Shelly Reed
    • Shelly is a 2002 graduate of WHS and earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Kent State. She is now the Diversion Coordinator at Stark County Family Court, working with at-risk youth throughout Stark County. Shelly lives in Massillon with her family, Angelo and their daughter Makiya who have always been very active in Massillon sports. Shelly especially enjoys watching her daughter play basketball as a Lady Tiger!

    • Michelle is a life long Massillon resident.  She was a local Banker for 30 years and now is the Controller at Stark Glass Enterprises.  Michelle has served on many local Boards and served on Massillon City Council.  Michelle is married to Matt and they have two sons, Vinny and Tommy.

  • Brian Smith “Smitty”
    • Brian is born and raised in Massillon. 2003 Graduate from Massillon Washington High School, 2008 Graduate from the University of Akron with a Bachelor’s Degree in Middle-Childhood Education and K-12 Special Education. Brian is currently an intervention specialist at Massillon Washington High School, Head JV Boys Basketball Coach, coaches multiple MYSA sports teams and volunteers with the football team. Brian also owns his own concession trailer business named “Smitty’s Concessions” Brian is married to Leann Smith and they currently have two sons Brayden and Carson both attending school in Massillon. Both sons participate in many of MYSA activities. Brian along with Devin cretead MYSA from the ground up to provide oppertunities for Massillon Students to excell in all athletics and help build feeder programs for middle and high school atheltics within the Massillon City School District.
  • Devin Williams 
    • Devin Williams is a Massillon High School Graduate. He has two sons adn one daughter that attend Massillon High School. All three are graduated and in college. Devin is the assistant varsity girls basketball coach for Massillon High School. Devin is married to Kelly Williams. Devin along with Brian cretead MYSA from the ground up to provide oppertunities for Massillon Students to excell in all athletics and help build feeder programs for middle and high school atheltics within the Massillon City School District.

Massillon Youth Sports Association is a transparent non-profit orgnaizaion.
