Basketball – Practice Info

When practicing at Massillon Recreation Center (MRC)

• Only MYSA Board-approved coaches will be permitted in the building and gym during practice; all others must remain in their car or leave and return. Unless they are a Parks & Recreation Member. Parents are not permitted in the building except to drop off and pick up; parents are not permitted past the front desk area.
• If siblings, friends, or parents (ANYONE NOT REGISTERED AS A PLAYER OR COACH) are caught roaming the building for ANY reason, that player will lose his/her privilege to practice and play; no refunds for this action.
• Equipment in gymnasiums is not for youth basketball use. Please stay off the equipment and do not move any equipment for any reason.
• Players will be dropped off with their coach in the vestibule and returned to the vestibule following practice. Please be prompt in dropping your child off and picking them up.
• They are allowing us to use their facility during open hours. Please be considerate of their policies.

When practicing at East Elementary: (NEW SITE THIS SEASON)

• Enter Door #09 (This door is located in the back of the school). There is limited parking back in this area for coaches ONLY; parents should drop off and pick up only in this area. If parents wish to stay and wait in the parking lot, they can do so in the front parking lot of the building, no idling or parent parking in the back of the building, OR on any driveway.
• Players must enter and go directly to the gymnasium; do not go to any other parts of the school, or your child will be removed from our league without a refund.
• Parents/siblings are NOT permitted in the school buildings.
• If siblings, friends, or parents of a player/coach (ANYONE NOT REGISTERED AS A PLAYER OR COACH) are caught roaming the building for ANY reason, that player will lose his/her privilege to practice and play; no refunds for this action.
• Players and Coaches are only permitted in buildings during their scheduled practice times.
• Equipment in gymnasiums is not for youth basketball use. Please stay off the equipment and do not move any equipment for any reason.
• Doors will not open until five minutes prior to the start of the first practice at each building. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
• Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes prior to the start time of your practice.
• Please be prompt in dropping your child off and picking them up.
• Once you arrive at the school, players are to go directly to the gym and nowhere else.
• Remind players to throw their trash (bottles) away and be respectful of our school buildings.

When practicing at WHS:

• Enter through the ticket office door, Door # 8.
• Practice will take place in the Auxiliary or Main gym.
• Parents/siblings are NOT permitted in the school buildings; however, they are permitted to come in to drop their child off and pick them up.
• If siblings, friends, or parents of a player/coach (ANYONE NOT REGISTERED AS A PLAYER OR COACH) are caught roaming the building for ANY reason, that player will lose his/her privilege to practice and play; no refunds for this action.
• Players and Coaches are only permitted in buildings during their scheduled practice times.
• Equipment in gymnasiums is not for youth basketball use. Please stay off the equipment and do not move any equipment for any reason.
• Players will not be permitted in the gyms until 5 minutes prior to the start of their practice.

Additional Information:

• If players are being transported by different people each week, make sure they have read and understand these policies; there are no excuses for not following these policies. Inform everyone who may transport your child to and from practice.
• No siblings, cousins, or friends are permitted in the building during practices. Only the registered participants and coaches are permitted in the buildings.
• Parents are NOT permitted in school buildings for any reason, only board-approved coaches and registered players.
• Please remember that there may be a game or practice taking place at either MMS or WHS and that those games/practices take priority over youth practices.
• Please be on time when picking your son/daughter up Coaches have families that they need to get home to, and can’t stay after practice to babysit players.
• Remind players to throw their trash (bottles) away and be respectful of our school buildings.
• Failure to follow the above guidelines and policies will result in your child not being able to participate in practice at school buildings, thus they may not be able to participate in the MYSA basketball league.
• Please abide by these policies, as failure to do so may result in our not being able to use the facility and thus having to cancel our league due to a lack of gym space.
• We will NOT notify you that practices are on; we will ONLY notify you if Practices are canceled. If you are scheduled to practice on the LIVE schedule, then you are having practice.

When Massillon City Schools are canceled/closed due to weather, all practices are canceled.
